General Information: You will be happy to find that Moroccans are friendly, polite, competitive bargainers and intensely curious about the outside world. Islam is the thriving faith but Morocco’s version is more moderate, open minded and tolerant. Morocco recognizes also the Jewish and Christian faiths but does not welcome open proselytizing. You can experience the heart of the culture by being open and independent enough to accept the offers of hospitality which will pour from the rich and the poor alike whether in the city or the countryside. Moroccans take great pride in truly welcoming you and offering warm hospitality.
Morocco brims over with contrast, color and mystery, and all you can do is simply catch your breath in wonder. The country has a timeless quality that no longer exists in the modern world. A sense that the past with all its’ glory and tradition still lives on, threading in and out of the present informing with every word and gesture. A visit to Morocco will provide visitors with magnificent sights, memorable acquaintances and piquant tastes and smells.
The area in and around Fint is a good example of the local oasis valleys of the Dades River Valley region. Here we find beds of river fed cultivation set between arid mountain slopes, and you will note the clarity of light and the startling contrast between the sun baked rocks and the iridescent green valley is simply sublime. This area is mostly inhabited by skillful and hardworking Berber Tribes celebrated for their colorful textiles, earth- built architecture, lively music, agriculture and delicious cooking.
There are many fun and exciting ways to reach the Oasis of Fint. The most direct is by plane with flights arriving at Ouarzazate, followed by a short drive to Fint. Let us know to arrange for your pickup. The next closest airport is Marrakech, followed by a three hour drive (approximately) to Ouarzazate and then on to Fint.
Travel access to this area by plane: Morocco has twelve international airports: Agadir, Al Hoceima, Casablanca, Dakhla, Fez, Laayoune, Marrakech, Ouarzazate, Oujda, Rabat-Sale, Tangier, and Tetouan. Royal Air Maroc and other leading international and charter airlines provide fast and regular service from all major cities in Europe, North America and the Middle East. For example, Casablanca is approximately 1 hour by air from Madrid, 3 hours from Paris and 6/30 from New York (overnight flight).

Travel access to this area by train: Travelers from the UK can travel by train to Moroccco by taking the Eurostar or a regular train from London to Paris, on to Madrid and Algeciras or Malaga and then take the ferry across the Strait of Gibraltar. More details can be gotten from www.eurostar.com or www.raileurope.co.uk/interrail.htm. Morocco is the only North African country covered by Inter-Rail pass which offers greater flexibility and cheaper travel to those on a budget and no particular time schedule. The Moroccan railway system is concentrated in the north of the country and service is available to the following cities: Tangier- Rabat- Casablanca-Marrakech-Safi- Essaouira or Oujda- Fes- Meknes-Sidi Kacem- Marrakech.
Travel access to this area by bus: Travelers from the UK can book space aboard the Eurolines coaches which run regularly from London, via Paris and Algeciras to Rabat, Tangiers, Casablanca and on. The Moroccan national bus lines are run through the offices of CTM- Lignes Nationales in Casablanca 02-444-8127 or through the local ONMT office. Supplemental bus runs are made by the railway through the offices of ONCF.
Getting around in this area by car or 4x4: International car rental companies are represented in all main Moroccan cities and are known to generally provide good service. It is advisable to make reservations before leaving home and confirm pick up instructions. It is recommended to carry an international drivers’ license, passport, and car rental and registration papers at all times when driving. Third party insurance is compulsory as well as the wearing of seat belts by all occupants. Speed limits run 100-120 kph on the motorways, and 40-60 kph in built up areas. All signage is written in Arabic and some in French in the cities. The roadways are generally in good shape but beware of seasonal weather such as flooding, hail storms, mudslides, or snowstorms. Many outfits offer the affordable services of local drivers or can recommend a driver for hire if you feel more comfortable letting someone else drive while you enjoy the countryside.
