SAMPLE ITINERARY:

Outside of Fint we find the town of Ouarzazate, The Ksar of Ait Benhaddou, Taorirt, Tifeltout, Telouet, and others which can all be reached with one day trips out of Fint and Ouarzazate.

In Ouarzazate we find we can tour the “Hollywood” of Atlas Studios, explore the Kasbah Taorirt built by the el-Glaoui Family located in the eastern section of town and then discover new treasures at the nearby Ensemble Artisanal , a local handicraft center. Don’t forget to check out the restored Kasbah of Tifeltout in the southern part of town which is now converted to a comfortable hotel.

Just outside of Ouarzazate, day trips to the UNESCO, world heritage site of Ait Benhaddou is sure to be a wonderful experience. Visitors can tour the restored and original intricately carved sections of the towers and buildings on the lower hillside and if tempted can explore the old remains higher above where the old fortified granary and older section was located. This location is breath-taking and awe inspiring, which explains why movie directors return time after time to shoot in this location.

Also one day to two day trips can be made to view the great kasbah of Telouet, Dar Glaoui, which overlooks the Oued (river) Imare and is located between Ouarzazate and Marrakesh. This kasbah has many original buildings still standing but is falling into disrepair now that it is unoccupied. Some of the buildings still retain the magnificent sections of carved stucco, painted ceilings and original tile mosaics and a good idea of the splendor of the past can be seen and further imagined.

Longer trips up to five days can also easily be planned to visit the Draa River Valley, Dades River Valley, towns of Zagora, Amerhidil, Tinehir, the Dades Gorges, the Todra Gorges, and the towns of Erfoud and Rissani, and of course Merzouga and dunes of the Erg Chebbi. Merzouga marks the end of “civilization” and the beginning of the Sahara Desert. Erg Chebbi is the largest dune in Morocco at 50 meters or 164 feet high. This is a great area for 4x4 trips, camel treks and camping under the stars. Be sure to look for the local nomads, the Touareg, known as the “blue men” for the traditional blue clothing they wear. Nomads of this tribe are eager guides, trekkers and usually very musically talented. They can be found all across the Sahara and even all the way to Timbuktu.
